ROBERTO MANCINI could be heading for the exit door at Manchester City, with the Premier League champions poised to bring in Pep Guardiola’s ex-boss.

According to reports on Spanish radio, former Barcelona sporting director Txixi Begiristain will join City next week.

And the move has sparked rumours that the appointment could pave the way for Guardiola to take over the Etihad outfit next summer.

It seems strange to be talking about Man City needing to consider replacing Roberto Mancini given that the led the Etihad Stadium side to the Premier League title last term and has started the season unbeaten in domestic league action, but such is the nature of the game that a poor Champions League showing could well lead to the Italian being forced out.

Pep Guardiola has been out of work since leaving Barcelona at the end of last term and the 41 year old may be itching to get back into management.

The chase to bring in former Nou Camp sporting director Txixi Begiristain will of course lead to speculation about a move to bring in Guardiola but it seems that talk of such a switch is a bit premature.
