Anfield side want experienced forward.
Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is scouting Lyon forward Bafetimbi Gomis after being alerted by a very public admission from Stade Gerland owner Jean-Michel Aulas about the financial state of the Ligue 1 side.
Aulas has stated his intention to sell three top players over the course of the next two transfer windows and this had led to a great deal of speculation as to the future’s of the high-profile stars. Lyon are in a financially precarious state and despite selling Hugo Lloris, Aly Cissokho and Kim Källström to Tottenham, Valencia and Spartak Moscow respectively over the summer.
Liverpool’s need for striking reinforcements is visible for all to see, even prior to Fabio Borini being sidelined with a broken foot it was all to evident that the Merseyside club did not have enough in the way of firepower and it’s a situation Rodgers wanted to avoid but was left shocked by his side’s inability to bring in a deadline day addition to boost numbers.
The Anfield boss will look to his board to sanction a bid of around €12m (£9.7m) that he hopes will tempt Lyon into selling in order to help balance the books.
27 year old powerful forward Gomis impressed many during his time at Saint-Etienne, with the French international scoring 45 goals in his last three seasons at the Stade Geoffroy-Guichard, earning him a £11m move to Lyon.
Bafetimbi Gomis scored a solid 15 and 14 goals in his first two seasons at Lyon but last term upped his game to produce a career best of 25 goals across all campaigns.
Liverpool will hope to lure the Lyon man to the Premier League where he could act as a foil to Uruguayan striker Suarez.
