Chelsea are interested in signing CSKA Moscow midfielder Alan Dzagoev but the Russian outfit are likely to demand top dollar for the playmaker.

Dzagoev shone at this summer’s European Championship in Poland and Ukraine, scoring three times despite Russia’s disappointing exit in the group stage.

The 22-year-old playmaker has been linked with a move to Tottenham but it is understood that Chelsea are keen on the star to replace veteran Frank Lampard.

Blues boss Roberto Di Matteo admitted this weekend that Lampard, 34, could leave Stamford Bridge as soon as January and the European Champions could swoop for Dzagoev in the new year.

Despite the link, journalist Jason Burt of the Sunday Telegraph thinks it’s unlikely  Dzagoev will turn up at Stamford Bridge in January. “He is desperate to come to the Premier League. They [his agents] were trying to get Spurs interested in him in the summer. That deal didn’t happen but he had a very good Euros and his stock is very high. CSKA Moscow will want a very big price for him, but I can’t see him being a priority for Chelsea at the moment.”
