Man City boss Roberto Mancini appears to have changed tack a little in terms of the players he is now targeting. Whereas in previous transfer windows the Italian would essentially look to bring in marquee signings who are established experienced household names now the Etihad Stadium boss appears to be looking more to youthful additions who can serve the Premier League side into the future.

To this end Mancini signed Matija Nastasic, Scott Sinclair and Jack Rodwell over the summer and is now eyeing up highly regarded Schalke midfielder Julian Draxler.

The 19 year old is already into his third season in the Schalke first team picture and made a total of 45 appearances last term as he made himself indispensable to boss Huub Stevens. This fine form helped force the teenager into the German national team set-up.

Draxler may have to think long and hard about interest from Man City as there is of course the danger that his career could stagnate behind the mass of talent likely to be vying for a space in the centre of Mancini’s midfield.
