Sir Alex Ferguson may well feel the need for a steely out and out defensive midfielder but would he look to fill that spot with West Brom’s Claudio Yacob?

The 25 year old Argentine midfielder has impressed since his move to the Hawthorns in the summer but is clearly only just settling into life in the English top tier and it would perhaps be unwise to judge his abilities on the basis of eight Premier League appearances.

The former Racing Club de Avellaneda man has been an ever present in Steve Clarke’s side this term and has won three full international caps and is a tough tackler who does have a great deal of potential.

Man United haven’t had the use of a player who could be thought of as an out and out enforcer since Owen Hargreaves saw his Old Trafford career succumb to injuries.

Paul Scholes is not renowned for his tackling ability and Darren Fletcher and Michael Carrick are both able to get stuck in on occasion but are clearly not players who are known for stopping oppositions advances and Anderson has not lived up to early expectations.

However a January move for Yacob does seem fairly unlikely as West Brom are unlikely to entertain offers for a player who has only been at the club for a matter of months.
