Referee is alleged to have aimed a racist insult at Chelsea star.
The FA are set to review video evidence after referee Mark Clattenburg was accused of aiming a racist insult at Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel during Sunday’s 3-2 home defeat by Manchester United at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea made a complaint to the Premier League after Mikel stormed into the referee’s room to demand an apology after claiming Clattenburg made a racist slur when he booked the midfielder in the 76th minute.
One of Chelsea’s Spanish stars is also involved after players claim they heard Clattenburg refer to him as ‘a Spanish t**t’. Spaniards Fernando Torres, Juan Mata and Cesar Azpilicueta all played against United.

The video below is apparently of the alleged incident involving the County Durham born official and the Chelsea midfielder is below.
The offence is clearly a very serious one and the FA will have to monitor a great deal of footage in order to get to the bottom of this case. The match was obviously a huge fixture which must have been covered by any number of cameras and microphones so this may not end up just being one person’s word against another.
One would imagine that such a claim would not be made without good reason and one wonders what sanction would be handed to the referee should he indeed be found guilty of the offence in question.
