Blow for Chelsea as Target Radamel Falcao Has No Desire to Leave Atletico Madrid

La Liga goal machine not interested in Stamford Bridge switch.

Check-In to Chelsea v Man United: Capital One Cup

Atletico Madrid star Radamel Falcao has handed Chelsea a potential transfer blow after revealing that he is “very happy” in the Spanish capital and has no intention of leaving the club.

talkSPORT revealed on Monday that Atletico had planned to offer him a new deal to prolong his stay in Madrid, and it appears as though the 26-year-old may be receptive to the idea.

Speaking to Spanish TV programme Punto Pelota, the sought-after striker said: “I do not leave the club at this moment. I’ve never thought of [leaving]. I do not have that desire in my head.”

This is perhaps not good news for Chelsea as the West London side did seemingly set their stall to land the Colombian international in order to boost their striking options but perhaps by January Radamel Falcao may be more open to a possible Stamford Bridge switch.

Currently Atletico Madrid are in barnstorming form, level pegging with Barcelona having one eight and drawn one of their first nine La Liga matches. Can Diego Simeone’s side continue that run of form though?

The Vicente Calderon side may also have a financial need to consider selling Falcao, a need that could trump the 26 year old’s own desire to stay at the club. This is a side who has repeatedly sold their prized assets to balance the books, Sergio Aguero, Fernando Torres and Diego Forlan’s departures being the most recent examples of this.

Roberto Di Matteo would dearly love to sign the Atletico Madrid man as he currently relies a great deal on Fernando Torres continuing his recent run of good form and doesn’t appear all that keen on using his back up options with Daniel Sturridge and Romelu Lukaku, currently on loan at West Brom, getting few chances to impress the Italian since he took over from Andre Villas-Boas in March.
