Man City Ready to Pounce as Roma Consider Selling Daniele De Rossi to Avoid Financial Turmoil

Etihad Stadium side keen to land long term target.

Manchester City have been boosted in their pursuit of Daniele De Rossi after one of Roma’s shareholders admitted the failure to sell him has amounted to ‘commercial suicide’.

The recent disclosure of Roma’s financial statements for the past year made for grim Reading, with the club posting an operating loss of £47million.

When asked how this could have been avoided, a shareholder told Il Messaggero: “It was commercial suicide failing to sell De Rossi.”

Well this will certainly open the door for a Man City bid.

Roberto Mancini has been tracking the battling Italian for the best part of a year and even though the Man City boss brought in defensive midfielders Javi Garcia and Jack Rodwell in over the summer there has still been strong speculation about the Etihad Stadium side’s interest in the experienced Roma man.

The Rome born leader has racked up almost 400 appearances for his side and is now in his 12 season at the club but has on the whole failed to help the Giallorossi to succeed.

Indeed De Rossi has collected five Serie A title runners-up medals and of late has seen the club even secure Champions League football, last term’s seventh place finish cost Luis Enrique his job, and arguably this could be the right time for the tough tackling midfielder to consider a new challenge.
