Neymar set for 2014 Barca switch.
Barcelona have set aside £32m in their latest accounts for an “unmovable and intangible asset”, thought to be Santos striker Neymar.
The figure includes a £10m advanced payment already made to the Brazilian club, reports Spanish football expert Guillem Balague on twitter.
Both the Catalans and Santos have consistently denied that the Brazilian wonderkid is set to move to Barcelona but the news suggests an agreement is already in place.
Balague says under the terms of the deal, Santos must pay the Spaniards £16m if Neymar signs for another club, with fierce La Liga rivals Real Madrid also believed to be interested in the skillful forward.
The most likely scenario will see Neymar move to the Nou Camp after the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
Interesting. It seems that Barcelona have beaten their fierce rivals Real Madrid to Brazilian wonderkid Neymar, with a £32m agreement already in place between the Catalans and Santos.
Given Neymar’s prodigious talent, the monstrous fee almost seems low – particularly when PSG paid Sao Paulo a similar sum for Lucas Moura – but its worth remembering that, however talented, Neymar is yet to prove himself in Europe.
The 20-year-old forward has, however, already demonstrated his considerable talents on the international stage, bagging 16 goals in just 25 appearances for Brazil and dazzling with his silky skills at this summer’s Olympic Games in London.
The prospect of Neymar lining-up alongside Lionel Messi for Barca now looks a very real possibility – a front-two with the dribbling and finishing capability to terrify Real Madrid, let alone some of the smaller La Liga outfits.
The source suggests that Santos will be liable to pay Barca a hefty £16m if Neymar moves elsehwere, which surely rules out the slim prospect of seeing Neymar in the Premier League after the 2014 World Cup.
Chelsea and Manchester City undoubtedly have the cash to be able to tempt the Brazilian but it has long looked like a two-horse race between Barca and Real, which the former now appear to have won.
