Emirates Stadium attacker finally convinces Gunners boss he is ready to fill striking slot.
Arsene Wenger has given his clearest indication yet that he is caving in to Theo Walcott’s demand to play as a striker.
The England star produced a magnificent display of finishing with a hat-trick in Arsenal’s epic League Cup win over Reading on Tuesday.
Walcott has scored 49 career goals for the Gunners – the same number as both their legendary striker Charlie George and Euro 2000-winning striker Sylvain Wiltord managed.
Arsenal boss Wenger said after the Madejski madness: “Theo was superb. I have always said that he will be a striker so we are on the same wavelength there.”
The Arsenal boss added: “He has something.
“First of all, he is a good finisher now – the way he scored the first goal.
“Second, I believe as well that he knows where to be in the box for the rebounds. I like that, because that is a quality of the striker that you cannot give to anybody – you feel it or you don’t.
“He has the qualities to play there.”

So there you have it. It appears that the two potential stumbling blocks in the path of Theo Walcott and a new contract has now been narrowed to just one.
The 23 year old attacker has been yearning for a central striking role as well as a hefty pay rise, well Arsenal are apparently holding firm on financial matters but Arsene Wenger is waxing lyrical about the England man’s predatory finishing.
This could all add up to a striking berth for the former Southampton man and perhaps he will get the chance to play in that position on Saturday as Arsenal travel to Old Trafford to take on Man United?
Walcott hasn’t started a Premier League match since the opening day of the season, frozen out of first team matters due to his unwillingness to put pen to paper on the offer already on the table.
However when the Arsenal man has come on from the bench he has consistently caused problems and Theo Walcott has now scored seven goals in all competitions despite making only 11 appearances, of which only three were starts.
