Chelsea want Sandro to swap White Hart Lane for Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea are interested in signing Tottenham midfielder Sandro but will face competition from Italian giants AC Milan, fanatix has learnt.
The Blues are understood to be weighing up a £15m bid for the Brazilian next summer and believe he will swap North London for West, particularly if Tottenham fail to qualify for the Champions League.
In the absence of the injured Scott Parker, Sandro has been a key part of Andre Villas-Boas’ encouraging start as Spurs boss, featuring from the start in every league game under the Portuguese.
The 23-year-old struggled for form and fitness last term but showed glimpses of class during his first season at White Hart Lane, where he produced two magnificent Champions League performances as Spurs beat AC Milan over two legs in 2010.
It is believed that the Italians have also been tracking the former Internacaional player for some time and are ready to rival Chelsea for his signature next summer.
The summer before last Chelsea’s high profile pursuit of Spurs midfielder Luka Modric ended in failure, with Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy insisting that the Croatian was not for sale at any price, before eventually flogging him abroad this August.
Despite the affair, which must have considerably raised tensions between the London rivals, Chelsea are reportedly targeting Sandro and could make a £15m bid for the Brazilian next summer.
The 23-year-old is exactly the kind of player the Blues need. Sandro is happiest when sitting in front of the back four, breaking up play and he would act as a fine ball-winner behind the likes of Eden Hazard, Juan Mata and compatriot Oscar, shoring up a back-line that is looking very leaky.
With Frank Lampard set to leave Stamford Bridge next summer (if not in January), and Jon Obi Mikel still erratic on occasion, it’s not hard to see why Chelsea are interested in the powerful Spurs player.
Levy, however, is a formidable negotiator, who will not take kindly to the Blues sniffing around Sandro, particularly as he is likely to have his hands full trying to keep Gareth Bale at White Hart Lane next summer.
This could get fiery.
