Anfield side hope to land Schalke hot-shot.
Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has made Schalke forward Klaas-Jan Huntelaar his number one transfer target, according to reports in Holland.
talkSPORT’s Dutch football expert Marcel van der Kraan expressed his belief last week that Huntelaar will soon feature in the Premier League.
As reported on Liverpool-Kop any move for Schalke forward would entail triggering the 29 year old striker’s €20m (£16m) but the fact that Dutch international is keen to make a move to the Premier League will give the Anfield side hope as they look to beef up their threadbare attack.
The former Ajax man struggled at both Real Madrid and AC Milan before his move to the Bundesliga rejuvenated Huntelaar’s flagging career. Last term the Dutchman scored an incredible 47 goals in all competitions and has started the current campaign in a similar fashion.
Huntelaar has plied his trade all over Europe and a move to the English top tier may be the just the challenge he is looking for.
Liverpool have managed 12 goals in nine Premier League matches thus far and have had to overly rely on Uruguayan Luis Suarez, especially since Fabio Borini has been sidelined with a broken foot, leaving Brendan Rodgers with just one senior striker in his squad.
The Merseyside club have struggled to break down stubborn defences, most recently drawing a blank against Stoke City and narrowly edging Reading at home. Huntelaar could perhaps be an ideal foil for Suarez up front and the £16m fee would certainly be a fair price to pay for such an in-form player.
