Roberto Mancini came close to leaving Manchester City
Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini says he had a number of opportunities to leave the club last season before signing a new five-year contract.
Although he did not name specific clubs, Mancini was answering a question about reports he almost joined French league club Monaco in the summer.
“Last year I was very close with seven or eight teams but I prefer to stay here,” he said.

This is all very convenient isn’t it. Roberto Mancini has come under fire, probably unfairly, for a relatively average start to the campaign and some had even speculated that the Italian could be in danger of losing his job.
Therefore it’s an opportune time for the former Inter Milan man to state the fact that everyone wants his services.
The 47 year old probably doesn’t get as much credit as he should, some claiming that any manager could secure a Premier League title with the level of funding he has received since he took over at Man City.
However is the fact that Monaco are/were interested in Mancini really anything to write home about? Yes the club represents the cash-rich principality but they are in the French second tier and therefore unlikely to interest Mancini.
