Chelsea’s search for an attacking addition to boost their Stamford Bridge squad has led the West London side to the San Siro.

The West London side are reportedly readying an exploratory bid for young AC Milan striker Stephan El Shaarawy who Russian owner Roman Abramovich hopes will be tempted by the chance to leave the troubled Italian giants for a move to the reigning Champions League title holders.

Having seen star pair Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Thiago Silva sold to PSG over the summer Rossoneri boss Massimiliano Allegri opted to hand El Shaarawy the chance to play in an orthodox striking role rather than in the wide attacking position he has spend most of last term plying his trade.

It’s a move that may well be the only bright spot of the season for AC Milan. Whilst Allegri’s side have struggled for form, losing five of their opening 11 matches of the campaign, the 20 year old Italian international has thrived. Stephan El Shaarawy scoring eight goals already in domestic league action alone and fully justifying the new contract he was handed in July.

However Chelsea may feel that owner Silvio Berlusconi’s cost cutting drive may leave the possibility open for a significant offer for the young striker to be considered.

Roberto Di Matteo is keen to boost his attacking options as currently the Blues boss is all to aware that he relies too heavily on Fernando Torres, a player who is still some way off justifying the £50m forked out for his services. Chelsea have been linked with a number of high-profile names but now the Premier League side are ready to turn to the in-form AC Milan youngster as their number one target.

Chelsea have been strongly linked with Atletico Madrid goal machine Radamel Falcao but the La Liga side’s excellent start to the season and the huge asking price appear to obstacles that Abramovich is unable to overcome, hence the desire to turn to El Shaarawy who is seen as a better fit in relation to the club’s youthful transfer policy.
