Atletico Madrid Target Tottenham Striker as Chelsea Close In On La Liga Goal Machine

Stamford Bridge side to benefit from sale of White Hart Lane bench-warmer.

Check-In to Man City v Tottenham

Emmanuel Adebayor is wanted by Atletico Madrid as he looks for a way out of Tottenham – just 10 weeks after sealing a move to White Hart Lane, writes The Sunday People.

Atletico, who are enjoying an outstanding start to the La Liga season, are weighing up a bid for Adebayor as they seek potential replacements for highly-rated Radamel Falcao.

The Colombian striker is wanted by Chelsea, as well as several other European superpowers.

And Atletico know the European champions could make them an offer they cannot refuse in January.

Despite a successful season-long loan at Spurs last term, he has been left out by AVB in favour of Jermain Defoe.

Tottenham would not allow Adebayor to leave until they have signed a replacement. Sevilla’s Alvaro Negredo is one of many strikers on the north London club’s radar.

Did Andre Villas-Boas ever really want Emmanuel Adebayor? Or Hugo Lloris for that matter. The manner in which the pair have been treated since they arrived at the North London club is baffling to say the least. It’s not often a manager forks out decent money for summer additions and then steadfastly opts to not play them, suggesting that perhaps the decision to bring in the duo pre-dated the Portuguese boss’s arrival at White Hart Lane.

Adebayor had an excellent season on loan at Tottenham last term, scoring and laying on assists with regularity but even though Villas-Boas only has Jermain Defoe to call upon as an attacking alternative, he has not found space to hand the former Arsenal man a single Premier League start, and we are now in November so one has to wonder just what the point of having signed the big forward in the first place.

A move to La Liga, where Emmanuel Adebayor did relatively well on loan at Real Madrid, could tempt the 28 year old and Diego Simeone may well see the Spurs forward as an able replacement for Radamel Falcao, who according to this source is all set to join Chelsea the moment the Stamford Bridge club open up their chequebook.
