Old Trafford side continue youthful transfer policy by targeting German teenager.
Manchester United are monitoring the progress of German rookie Leon Goretzka, who has been dubbed the ‘new Michael Ballack’.
The 17-year-old midfielder has broken into the first team at second-division Bochum this season and his performances have not gone unnoticed across the continent.
United manager Sir Alex Ferguson is currently concentrating on recruiting exciting, young talent, such as Nick Powell and David De Gea, and Goretzka would fit the bill.
This source believes that Man United have joined AC Milan and Real Madrid in the hunt to land talented teenager Goretzka and that a fee of £1m may be enough to land the Bochum youngster, a fee that in today’s transfer market would represent something of a bargain.
The rangy 6ft 2in midfielder has already been capped at German Under 19 level and has forced his way into Bochum’s first team picture this term and could well be destined for big things. Clearly there is always an element of risk when it comes to taking a punt at a young talent who hasn’t matured into a first team regular.
Sir Alex Ferguson brought in the likes of Nick Powell and Angelo Henriquez over the summer and has seen young talents David de Gea, Chris Smalling, Phil Jones and Javier Hernandez all make fairly immediate impacts in the Man United first team following their respective arrivals at Old Trafford. Perhaps the Scot sees Goretzka as a player with the potential to do likewise.
