Emirates Stadium side keen on improving left-sided options eye up under-used Bernabeu talent.
Arsenal are reportedly considering making a move for Real Madrid wide-man Fabio Coentrao.
Arsene Wenger has set his sights on bringing a left sided addition to his Emirates Stadium squad as a result of the poor displays Andre Santos has produced and to deal with Kieran Gibbs repeated injury concerns.
The 24 year old Portuguese international is in danger of becoming surplus to requirements at the Bernabeu with Brazilian Marcelo refusing to surrender his left-back berth to the former Benfica man. Coentrao has made just one La Liga appearance this season and Jose Mourinho may well therefore consider offers for the experienced wing-back.
Fabio Coentrao cost Real Madrid £23.9m in the summer of 2011 and last season helped the Spanish giants to a domestic title triumph, sharing first team duties with Marcelo but is now little more than a bit part player who is in danger of stagnating at the Bernabeu.
Mourinho opted to loan out Nuri Sahin to Liverpool in order to give the Turkish international the chance to secure regular first team football and Wenger’s interest is said to revolve around a potential January loan bid that could lead to a permanent switch in the summer.
Attack minded Coentrao can play either as a left-back or further up on the flank and is a regular in the Portuguese national team set-up.
