Etihad Stadium side want Nou Camp youngster.
Man City ‘desperate to lure Jean Marie Dongou from Barcelona’
Manchester City are hoping to persuade Jean Marie Dongou – described as the next Samuel Eto’o – to leave Barcelona in favour of a move to the Etihad Stadium.
The 17-year-old striker is one of the hottest properties of the Spanish club’s La Masia youth system and has already made ten appearances for Barcelona B this season.
Having installed former Barcelona director of football Txiki Begiristain as their new director of football Man City may feel they could lure the talented Nou Camp youngster to the Etihad Stadium.
The Premier League side seemingly altered their approach to squad building a tad over the summer, targeting young talents like Jack Rodwell and Scott Sinclair over spending astronomical sums on established well known world-class stars and perhaps moves to nab youngsters from Europe’s ‘Elite’ may be another cost effective way of planning for the future.
However Barcelona’s new boss Tito Vilanova seems keen on blooding his young talents at the earliest opportunity and will not be looking to lose a player of Dongou’s potential.
The 17 year old is into his second season in the Barcelona B team and has already been capped at Under 20 level by Cameroon and may well be considering his next move. He could feel that a move to Man City could be more lucrative and may be a move that brings him nearer to first team football, though clearly with the likes of Sergio Aguero, Carlos Tevez, Mario Balotelli and Edin Dzeko vying for spots that may prove a tough ask to say the least.
