Stamford Bridge side ‘waiting in the wings’ to land Emirates Stadium attacker.
Chelsea are apparently keeping tabs on Arsenal winger Theo Walcott and are ready to make a move for the contract rebel in January.
Clubcall believe that the Stamford Bridge side are ‘waiting in the wings’ and ready to approach the England man with a pre-contract offer ahead of a potential free transfer move to the West London club.
The 23 year old former Southampton man is still to put pen to paper on a new deal and the signs are that he is unlikely to do as he continues to be frozen out of the Arsenal first-team.
The England international hasn’t started a Premier League game since the opening day of the season but has nonetheless produced consistent performances when called upon, so any move by Arsene Wenger to leave Walcott on the bench are clearly not based on form concerns.
Theo Walcott netted his eighth goal of the season against Schalke last night, despite having made just four starts in all competitions and one can see why Chelsea would be willing to make a move to sign the Arsenal man.
As the player’s concerns about a new contract reportedly relate to salary demands and a perceived lack of ambition from the the North London side he has represented for six and a half years, one could imagine Walcott could feel that a move to Chelsea would help him achieve his goals.
Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich would presumably be able to match the player’s salary expectations and it’s clear that the owner has backed Chelsea to the hilt with regards to funding moves in the transfer market to further improve a Blues squad that clinched their maiden Champions League triumph last term.
Perhaps a move to Chelsea would also serve to help Walcott earn a role in the orthodox striking position he apparently longs to fill. This may well be where Roberto Di Matteo would look to utilize the Arsenal man given that he has a plethora of wide options in his squad but not a great deal of effective alternatives to inconsistent striker Fernando Torres.
