Stamford Bridge full-back wanted by former Blues boss.
Ashley Cole has spoken to Paris Saint Germain boss Carlo Ancelotti about a summer switch to the Ligue 1 club, according to reports in France.
The Chelsea left-back is out of contract in the summer and is yet to sign a new deal to extend his six-year spell at Stamford Bridge.
That has led to speculation linking the 31-year-old with both PSG and Manchester United, but it appears that the former have shot ahead in the race for Cole’s signature.
And Le 10 Sport claim that former Chelsea boss Ancelotti has called Cole to sound him out ahead of a potential summer move.
Speculation seems to be reaching boiling point in relation to Ashley Cole’s Chelsea future. The left-back is not likely to be offered anything longer than a one year extension to his current contract when his deal runs out in the summer and this could well leave the England man vulnerable to being poached by sides willing to hand the 31 year old a more lengthy term.
PSG have been spending huge sums to help make the Parc des Princes side not only domestic title challengers but also a side able to compete for Champions League success.
This plan has worked thus far this term with Carlo Ancelotti’s side sitting top of Ligue 1 and on the verge of qualification for the knockout stages of the Champions League.
Now Ancelotti wants to lure his former charge to the French capital and given just how much he could offer the former Arsenal man, a deal could well be on the cards.
Chelsea may feel the time is right to allow Cole to leave, not least as they have a ready made replacement in Ryan Bertrand, but also because the West London side are certainly moving towards a more youthful Blues squad, this leaving the likes of John Terry and Frank Lampard wondering what the future could hold for their roles in the Stamford Bridge first-team picture.
