Liverpool Ready to Meet £18.5m Buy Out Clause to Sign South American Striker

Anfield side line up move for FC Porto forward.

Check-In to Chelsea v Liverpool

Liverpool are set to renew their interest in Porto striker Jackson Martinez.

Martinez, 26, was strongly linked with a move to Anfield during the summer but he opted to join the Portuguese side.

Italian sources claim Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has continued to monitor his progress and is ready to meet the buy-out clause in his contract.

With Andy Carroll joining West Ham on loan, Liverpool’s attacking options are limited and Rodgers wants to provide more ammunition for Luis Suarez.

Porto will be desperate to keep Martinez at the club, but may be forced to sell their star forward if Liverpool meet the asking price in his contract which is believed to be around £18.5m.

The Anfield side are certainly not the only side in pursuit of the powerful 26 year old striker who has been a phenomenal success since his £9m summer move to Portugal from Jaguares. The likes of Barcelona and Chelsea have both been linked with interest in the 26 year old.

Brendan Rodgers is in urgent need of attacking reinforcements having seen his options up front limited to just Luis Suarez after Fabio Borini broke his foot.

The Uruguayan has been an astounding success since his move from Ajax and has netted ten goals already this season but could well do with support.

A lot has been expected of Jackson Martinez as he saw striker Hulk leave FC Porto shortly after his arrival. The lethal finisher has not disappointed, exceeding all expectations with a blistering start scoring ten goals in eleven matches and helping his side to the top of the Primeira Liga.
