Brendan Rodgers is reportedly keen on AC Milan defender Philippe Mexes according to Italian source CalcioMercato

The Liverpool boss has had to trust to youth in various positions in his starting line-up due to poor form shown by some senior stars and a general lack of strength in depth. This has on one hand seen the rise of Raheem Sterling, Suso and Andre Wisdom as quality first team regulars but also means there is a danger that being thrown in at the deep end could result in teenagers burning out.

At the back Liverpool have seen Daniel Agger and Martin Skrtel spend time out with injuries and Jamie Carragher, though commanding against Chelsea on the weekend, is getting no younger and is perhaps not as reliable as he has been.

30 French international Mexes has struggled to secure regular first team football since he moved to the San Siro on a free transfer in May 2011 though this term things have fared a little better since AC Milan opted to sell their star centre-back Thiago Silva to PSG.

The former Roma man may well be amenable to a new challenge given the Rossoneri have started the season in horrific fashion, losing six of their opening 12 matches and have already fallen 17 points off leaders Juventus Mexes may feel the time right to consider a move to the Premier League.
