Chelsea close in on Falcao swoop after opening talks over €60m January move

The Atletico Madrid sensation has told the European champions he wants to join them in the forthcoming window and is already believed to have agreed personal terms

Chelsea are closing in on the signature of Radamel Falcao after opening informal talks on a sensational €60 million January move, Goal.com has learned.

Club chiefs, acting on the instruction of owner Roman Abramovich, have made it clear to Falcao that they want to activate the release clause in his Atletico Madrid contract.

Goal.com understands that the Colombian striker has responded to the interest by telling Chelsea that he wants to move to Stamford Bridge in the winter window.

Despite competing enquiries in the 26-year-old from Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain, Falcao is now destined for a switch to Stamford Bridge at the turn of the year.

Chelsea appear to be in touching distance of landing long term target Radamel Falcao. The 26 year old Colombian has, according to this source, agreed personal terms with the West London side and has stated his intention of moving to Stamford Bridge over other possible prospective suitors.

It is as yet unclear as to whether the signing of the former FC Porto man would be in preference to Fernando Torres or as a possible strike-partner for the Spaniard.

Falcao netted 36 goals in his first season at the Vicente Calderon and his 13 goals in nine matches thus far this term have helped Diego Simeone’s side to a Super Cup Final triumph, over Chelsea, as well as mounting a genuine La Liga title challenge.

Roberto Di Matteo has struck steadfastly to Torres as the focal point of the Chelsea attack and whilst the former Liverpool man has improved this season his total of seven goals in 18 starts is by no means prolific. The likes of Romelu Lukaku, loaned out to West Brom and Daniel Sturridge, yet to start a Premier League match this season, do not appear to be viable alternatives for the Blues boss.
