Manchester United scouted Porto winger James Rodriguez on Sunday – to make it the SEVENTH time they have watched him this season.

United scouts saw the 21-year-old Colombian forward score against Academica de Coimbra. Porto insist they do not want to sell and he has a £24m buy-out clause in his contract.

It is believed they are eyeing him up as a potential replacement if Portugese winger Nani leaves Old Trafford this season after turning down a new deal.

Man United are certainly interested in Colombian James Rodriguez, who has been compared to former Old Trafford hero Cristiano Ronaldo, and a seventh scouting trip will perhaps do the trick as Sir Alex Ferguson seems likely to offload Nani to make room for the young FC Porto attacker.

The 21 year old former Banfield man helped his side to back to back domestic titles in his first two seasons at the Estadio Dragao and has further upped his game this term, netting six goals in eight league games thus far during the current campaign.

James Rodriguez can play in an attacking midfield role but is certainly more effective when out wide and in today’s market £24m is perhaps a decent price to pay.

Rodriguez has also been very effective at international level where his approach work has combined well with in-form forward Radamel Falcao.

One can see why Ferguson would be interested in the FC Porto man even though the Scot does have a number of wide attacking options that currently keep Nani out of the Man United starting eleven for much of the time.

Ashley Young has returned from injury, Luis Antonio Valencia is in an excellent run of form and youngster Danny Welbeck is growing into his role but that hasn’t stopped Ferguson aggressively pursuing Rodriguez.
