Robbie Keane is poised for another Premier League loan move – with a return to Aston Villa on the cards.

The Republic of Ireland captain is nearing the end of his MLS season with LA Galaxy.

And his Ireland boss Giovanni Trapattoni reckons he would benefit from a move in the January window.

The Italian wants Keane – who’s banging in the goals for Galaxy – in tip-top shape for the World Cup qualifiers in March.

“Robbie spoke to me about this situation, after last month’s game in the Faroes,” said Trapattoni.

“If he has this opportunity, it’s his decision. He has to make up his own mind.

“But in life it’s very important to have new challenges and if it suits him, it’ll be an injection for him.”

Trapattoni added: “He he stays (in America) he would have no football for three months, but his club have a tour in Malaysia.

“He has family – a wife and child – and until now he has not decided about what to do.”

Keane was loaned to Aston Villa during the MLS off-season a year ago and proved a big hit.

Robbie Keane could be set for another brief return to the Premier League, with Aston Villa thought to be interested in re-signing the LA Galaxy forward on loan.

The former Inter Milan, Tottenham and Liverpool striker is on great form in MLS, bagging 16 goals in 28 appearances this term at the Home Depot Arena.

The Irish international made a great impact when he joined Villa on a brief loan last season, bagging three Premier League goals in six games for Alex McLeish’s ailing side.

Paul Lambert is of course now boss at Villa Park is reportedly keen to bring back the 32-year-old for a second spall in the Midlands.

Keane is still a regular for the Irish national team and is sharp after an injury-free season for Galaxy and the diminutive forward could be exactly what Lambert’s ailing Villa side.

The experienced forward could prove a good foil for current target man Christian Benteke, as he could also work intelligently with England international Darren Bent in a front two.
