Arsenal are being linked with a move for Aston Villa new-boy Christian Benteke, after the Belgian dramatically revealed he would love to join the Gunners.

The 21-year-old joined the Villains from Genk this summer and has made a decent start to life in the Premier League, scoring four league goals in eight starts for Paul Lambert’s struggling side.

But the Belgium international has risked infuriating the Villa faithful by admitting that he loves Arsenal and even claimed he doesn’t care about upsetting the fans of the Midlands club.

“Arsenal are the club I love,” Benteke is quoted as saying by ESPN.

“I like their philosophy of selecting young players and, besides, they had Thierry Henry.

“For me he is the best player in the world and was my boyhood idol.

“I’m not afraid of making enemies at Villa by saying I love Arsenal.”

Benteke, who has been keeping prolific England striker Darren Bent out of the Villa side this season, admitted he is happy at Villa Park for the time being but initially thought he was moving to London, when he arrived for £7m on transfer deadline day.

“One can say worse things. I’m a Villa player for now. They’re the right club at the right time.

“When I joined Villa I didn’t know where they played. I thought they were a London club!”
