Liverpool vs Wigan Athletic. A battle between two former managers of Swansea – one of which was chosen to lead Liverpool at the expense of the other.

Despite considerable resources in comparison with Wigan though, Brendan Rodgers’ Reds are just one point better off than Roberto Martinez’s Latics team.

Will they better that record this weekend?

Wigan’s 2-1 victory over Liverpool when the sides last met in March was their first-ever win at Anfield.

The Reds have failed to beat Wigan in their last five league meetings (L2, D3).

Liverpool have won just one of their six league games at Anfield this season (they have won just two of nine home games in all competitions). But they are unbeaten in their last six league matches (W2, D4).

Luis Suarez has accounted for more than half of Liverpool’s goals in this season’s Premier League, scoring eight of their 14 goals. He has also had two assists, making him directly involved in 71% of their goals.

It’s Liverpool’s worst start to a campaign since the first season of the Premier League (1992-93), when they also had 12 points from 11 matches. That season they eventually finished sixth. At this time last season, they were sixth with 19 points.

Liverpool are the only team not to score in the last 15 minutes of a Premier League game this season.

Wigan have won two of their last three Premier League matches.

The Latics have 11 points from 11 matches. This time last season, they had just five points and were bottom of the table.

This season, Wigan have lost all six league matches in which the opposition has scored first.

The club’s last six Premier League goals have been scored by six different players.

fanatix prediction: 2-1. A narrow victory for Brendan Rodgers’ Liverpool.
