Mario Balotelli wants to leave title rivals Manchester City and return to Italy, says pal Patrice Evra.

Italy forward Balotelli is wanted by both Milan clubs, with AC Milan ready to sell former Man City forward Robinho back to his native Brazil to finance his transfer fee and wages.

The Manchester United captain said of controversy-magnet Balotelli: “Mario really misses Italy.

“I don’t know if he will stay in Manchester, because he wants to return to his country. I am not his agent – I am only telling you how he feels.

“He is my rival in Manchester – I meet him a lot, I know him well. Off the pitch, we joke around and I take the micky out of him.”

It is hard to say whether Patrice Evra is deliberately stirring or speaking from the heart but one thing is clear – Manchester City will not like this one bit!

The Manchester United left-back has publicly claimed that Mario Balotelli wants to leave Manchester City to return to Italy, just a day after the Italian’s agent said his client is happy at Eastlands, where he enjoys a husband/wife relationship with boss Roberto Mancini.

Evra’s words may well be provocative but there is no doubting that Balotelli is facing a tough time at the Premier League Champions this season. The  22-year-old was left out of the squad for the 2-1 win over Tottenham, where super-sub Edin Dzeko was again City’s hero, and is clearly Mancini’s fourth choice forward, with Carlos Tevez, Sergio Aguero and the former Wolfsburg man all ahead of him in the pecking order.

Balotelli is supremely talented, as he proved for Italy as Euro 2012, and there will undoubtedly be a whole host of clubs, including the Milan duo, interested in the maverick forward, who is never content as a bench warmer.

The Premier League would be a much duller place without the former Inter striker but it may ultimately be in City’s and Balotelli’s best interests if he returns home, where his talents will be fully appreciated.
