Perhaps Wenger had told his Arsenal players to be restrained when greeting old friends. Or perhaps Adebayor is simply not a friend.
Either way, the Togolese striker looked all ready for pre-match hugs and chats with Arsenal’s Bacary Sagna and his other former teammates but the Gunners players were having none of it.
Ex-Arsenal skipper William Gallas did at least get a brisk hug from Sagna but Adebayor was left looking distinctly uncomfortable after his not-so-warm welcome back to the Emirates.
The big striker looked set to make his old mates pay for their rudeness when he bundled Spurs into an early lead but the maverick forward was sent-off minutes later and the Gunners went on to batter their 10-man opposition 5-2.
