Rodgers eyeing Reading defender Pearce.
Rodgers was an academy coach at Reading when new Republic of Ireland international Pearce was emerging from the system and gave him his debut at the Madejski Stadium.
Pearce, 24, who has also represented Scotland under 21, played in all of Reading’s matches as the rose to last season’s Championship title.
But in recent matches Pearce has been displaced by Adrian Mariappa and now Sean Morrison in the heart of the Royals’ defence.

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is fan signing players he’s worked with in the past. The Northern Irishman has already brought Joe Allen and Fabio Borini, both of whom he’s managed previously, to Anfield and is reportedly eyeing a move for Reading centre-half Alex Pearce.
It seems a strange move, particularly considering that Pearce is struggling to make the first-team at the flounderingh Royals, who hardly have a watertight defence.
That said, 24-year-old Pearce has plenty of experience, having made over 100 appearances for the Royals and may be a decent signing as cover for Liverpool’s first choice centre-halves Martin Skrtel and Daniel Agger.
Veteran Jamie Carragher has been a tremendos servant to the Anfield club but the 34-year-old is surely in his last season as a player and Pearce could represent a cost-effective replacement, particularly when Rodgers will be prioritising the signing of a striker and winger in January.
