Tottenham are set to miss out once again in the race for £15m-rated Leandro Damiao.

Brazilian striker Damiao was a long-term target for ex-White Hart Lane boss Harry Redknapp.

And Internacional revealed his successor Andre Villas-Boas saw a summer bid rejected.

AVB was poised to renew his interest in January as he looks to bolster his wafer-thin strikeforce.

But Damiao, 23, is in no hurry to leave South America in the transfer window. He said: “I do not feel the need to move away right now. Now is not the time to be thinking about leaving here for Europe or the Premier League.”

Leandro Damiao has again poured cold water on speculation that he is set to join Tottenham by insisting he is happy at Brazilian club Internacional.

Spurs have been tracking the talented 23-year-old for the best part of two years, after signing a strategic partnership with Inter in 2010. The North Londoners have already landed enforcer Sandro from the Porto Alegre club and are understood to be desperate to bring his compatriot Damiao to White Hart Lane.

The Brazil international admitted in September that he had nearly joined a Premier League club, believed to be Spurs, over the summer, fuelling speculation that he could be set for a January switch.

The powerful striker saw his price tag rise several million pounds during the London Olympic Games, after he won the Golden Boot, scoring six times as the Samba Boys claimed the Silver medal.

Struggling Spurs are in need of a new striker, with doubts persisting about the temperament of Emmanuel Adebyaor and the ability of Jermain Defoe to play as a lone striker.

Mega-rich Man City have also been credited with an interest in £25m-rated Damiao, while Italian giants AC Milan and Inter Milan are also thought to be monitoring the forward’s situation at Inter.

However, Damiao’s latest remarks suggest that he is happy to follow Neymar’s example and remain in Brazil after the 2014 World Cup.
