Emirates Stadium side target Italian international.

Arsenal are reportedly taking an interest in Juventus forward Alessandro Matri as Arsene Wenger scouts for a solution to the lack of attacking options in his Emirates Stadium squad.

The 28 year old Italian international finished as Juventus’s top scorer in Serie A action last term, albeit with a fairly sedate total of 10 goals, but has struggled for a spot in the Turin side’s starting eleven this season with the likes of Mirko Vucinic and Fabio Quagliarella getting the nod ahead of the experienced striker.

Matri moved to Juventus in January 2011 after three and a half years at Cagliari and the former AC Milan forward’s form over the past 18 months has led to five national team caps but his sustained spell outside of the first team picture may well lead the Lombardy born marksman considering his options.

Arsene Wenger doesn’t have a wealth of striking options, not least because the Gunners boss appears to see Lukas Podolski, Theo Walcott and Gervinho more as wide attackers than orthodox centre-forward options.

Any potential bid for Matri could involve the possibility of including Danish forward Nicklas Bendtner as part of a player exchange, with the 25 year old Arsenal man currently in the middle of a season long loan spell at the Serie A side.

Matri has scored 21 goals in 57 appearances for Juventus.
