Check-In to Southampton v Newcastle United

TransferMarketWeb claim that newly promoted strugglers Southampton are readying a move to sign Tottenham veteran Brad Friedel.

The South-Coast side have the leakiest defence in the Premier League having shipped in an incredible 30 goals in 12 matches and perhaps the addition of the experienced American would help rectify the problem.

Thus far this term Andre Villas-Boas has steadfastly stuck with Friedel as his first choice keeper despite the summer signing of French international captain Hugo Lloris, however the 25 year old got the nod for the weekend’s North London derby so could well be leaning towards becoming the Portuguese boss’s first choice.

41 year old Friedel is into his second season at Tottenham having been an ever present last term and if he were to be dropped to the bench on a regular basis from now until the January transfer window then perhaps the former Blackburn Rovers and Liverpool man would consider a move to Southampton.
