Liverpool are reportedly considering a January bid for highly-rated Brazilian forward Leandro Damiao as Brendan Rodgers looks to beef up his threadbare attack.

The Anfield boss has been assured of significant transfer funds to be used when the transfer window re-opens and the Northern Irish manager is readying a bid for the Internacional forward who he feels can act as an ideal foil for Liverpool hot-shot Luis Suarez.

The Uruguayan has been shouldering Liverpool’s goal-scoring burden pretty much single-handedly over the past 18 months and is the Premier League’s top scorer this term with ten goals. Rodgers has very few alternative options or possible strike partners for the former Ajax man, a situation further exacerbated by the foot injury suffered by summer signing Fabio Borini.

Damiao’s national team colleague Lucas Leiva has sung the praises of the 23 year old stating publicly,

“He would suit the Premier League very well, as he is a strong centre-forward who finishes very well and knows how to play with his back to goal.”

Indeed that strength may lend itself well to life in the English top tier and Damiao’s record of 74 goals in 126 appearances for Internacional has led to a number of prospective suitors taking an interest in his services.

A number of Premier League sides scouted Damiao during the 2012 Olympic Football tournament, where the Brazilian finished as top scorer with six goals.

One would imagine a large fee would be needed to tempt Internacional into selling one of their prized assets and Brendan Rodgers will hope to win the race to persuade Damiao to make a somewhat inevitable move to Europe and more specifically to join his Anfield squad in January.
