Because four top quality international strikers just isn’t enough for the Etihad Stadium boss.

MANCHESTER CITY are set to lead the chase to sign David Villa if he decides to leave Barcelona in January.

Villa has become increasingly agitated in recent months and he was an unused substitute in his side’s 3-0 away win last night in the Champions League against Spartak Moscow.

Coupled with that, Barca have become increasingly dependent on Lionel Messi who continues to shatter goal records.

It’s hard to understand why Roberto Mancini would be looking to sign yet more attacking talent when players of the quality of Edin Dzeko and Mario Balotelli are wasting away on the Man City bench.

Man City have scored 25 goals in 12 Premier League matches and sit top of the table after an undefeated start to the season, so is there a need to bring in another forward? Yes the Etihad Stadium side have struggled in the Champions League but have still managed six goals in four matches, netting twice at the Bernabeu so perhaps the club’s forward line are not the problem.

David Villa hasn’t had the kind of impact at Barcelona that he would have hoped for but the 30 year old still scores regularly when called upon but has found securing a first team spot a little difficult since spending a lengthy time out with injury.

Tito Vilanova is a boss who has the long term future of Barcelona in mind and therefore the younger members of his Barcelona side may get more of a look-in as the season wears on with the likes of Pedro and Cristian Tello given a spot ahead of the former Valencia man.

David Villa could no doubt look to re-ignite his career in the Premier League but would a money spinning move to Man City be the right one to consider?
