Gareth Bale wants to quit Tottenham for Real Madrid this summer, according to reports.

The north London club are expecting their Welsh wonder to drop the bombshell in the coming months after he was made aware Jose Mourinho had put him at the top of his transfer wishlist.

If Spurs are to sell, they will seek a British record £50million for the former Southampton star, who moved to White Hart Lane in 2007 for a fee of £7m.

Speculation has been rife about a potential move to Real Madrid and this source suggests that Gareth Bale is very much interested in a Bernabeu switch and one would imagine that if a £50m bid was made then chairman Daniel Levy would be hard pressed to turn it down.

Bale saw team-mate Luka Modric move to the Spanish giants after a lengthy time being linked with a move to Chelsea and the fear is that the Welsh winger would follow suit if a top four spot is not secured this term. Perhaps even if Andre Villas-Boas booked a Champions League berth a move to Real Madrid could be on the cards.

The 23 year old has been a consistent force at Tottenham for the past three seasons and the North London side may well find it tough to prevent the former Southampton pursuing a move to a ‘bigger’ club and could feel the best they can achieve is delaying such a departure whilst securing as big a fee as possible from any potential sale.

Bale has racked up 176 appearances for Spurs since his move to the club in the summer of 2006, notching up 34 goals in the process.
