Tottenham Ready To Offload Summer Flop Clint Dempsey in January, With Liverpool And Fulham Tracking Forward

Dempsey could return to Craven Cottage or make Anfield switch.

Tottenham flop Clint Dempsey could be set for a swift return to Fulham after Andre Villas-Boas told Spurs chairman Daniel Levy he does not want the US international at White Hart Lane.

Dempsey, 29, only joined Spurs on transfer deadline day in August but fanatix understands that Villas-Boas wants Levy to consider offers for forward in January.

Liverpool, who tracked Dempsey in the summer and looked favourites for his signature before Spurs swooped, are understood to be interested in the American but will not pay more than £4m, with Levy determined to recoup the £6m Spurs paid the Cottagers.

Dempsey left Craven Cottage in acrimonious circumstances, with reports suggesting he went on strike in order to secure a move.

But it is thought Fulham are prepared to offer Dempsey the chance to return to West London but, like Liverpool, will not pay over the odds for the misfiring star.

While it would be a massive surprise to see Clint Dempsey leave Spurs after less than six months at White Hart Lane, the US star hasn’t exactly covered himself in glory during his short stay at the club.

Dempsey arrived at Tottenham minutes before the transfer window slammed shut in August and looked something of a panic puy, particularly considering Spurs had surprisingly offloaded Rafa van der Vaart to Hamburg earlier in the day.

It was widely expected that the American would join Liverpool, with boss Brendan Rodgers reportedly agreeing to loan Andy Carroll to West Ham on the assumption that Dempsey would move to Anfield. But the Reds’ US owners were unwilling to pay-up.

Rodgers may well end up getting his man in January but Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is a fierce business man who will not let the 29-year-old leave for less than the £6m he paid for him.

Fulham also reportedly have an interest in bringing Dempsey back to Craven Cottage. It would be a surprise move, particularly considering the circumstances in which he left, but Fulham fans are more forgiving that most and Dempsey certainly still has plenty to offer in the Premier League.
