Old Trafford side ready to signal their interest in long term target.
Man United are reportedly ready to signal their interest in Inter Milan playmaker Wesley Sneijder.
The Dutch international has long been on Sir Alex Ferguson’s wish-list and the Scot is ready to make an exploratory bid for the 28 year old who has been frozen out of Andrea Stramaccioni’s first team picture as discussions over his San Siro future continue to ramble on.
Sneijder’s future at the Serie A side appears to hang in the balance and this has been confirmed publicly by Nerazzurri sporting manager Marco Branca who has stated on Inter’s official website:
“The situation with Wes, who is part of the history of this club and a player we all care about, is that we’ve been discussing a possible – and for us necessary – adjustment to his contract for a while.
“We want to give the player and his entourage all the time they need to consider the terms of our proposal carefully, so the coach and the club have decided not to use the player in this period until things are clearer.”
Loosely translated it appears that Inter Milan are not willing to continue with the situation as it stands and this could well force the former Ajax and Real Madrid man into a departure from the Italian giants.
Sneijder was hoping to find his way back into Inter Milan’s starting eleven following a period out injured but initially struggled to persuade Stramaccioni to slot him back into the first team, with there being confusion as to whether the attacking midfielder was fit and ready to return, a fact that the flair player who keen to reiterate.
However Inter Milan managed very well without Sneijder, going on a run of seven straight wins, which included ending Juventus’s 49 match unbeaten run, furthering rumours that the player was now very much ‘surplus to requirements’.
Sir Alex Ferguson is now set to make an opening offer in the region of €15m (£12m) so as to both test the water with the Italian side and to make it clear to Sneijder that they are interested in his services.
The Man United boss is keen to bring in some added creativity to his midfield, which currently very much lacks a goal threat, and Ferguson feels the timing is right to re-ignite his interest in the Inter Milan man, who he feels could be snapped up in January.
Young Inter boss Andrea Stramaccioni is keen to put his own stamp on the squad he inherited from a plethora of manager’s who reigned briefly during a couple of very lean years and owner Massimo Moratti may be keen to balance the books and rid the club of one of their highest earners.
Sneijder completed an impressive treble of Serie A, Coppa Italia and Champions League triumphs in his first season at Inter Milan but has experienced something of a dip since Jose Mourinho left the club for Real Madrid and as such the talented midfielder may well be ready to usher in a new challenge at Old Trafford.
