Arsenal to Offer Jack Wilshere Club Captaincy and Huge Pay Rise to Prevent Gunners Exit

Emirates Stadium side set to reward youngster following successful return from injury.

Jack Wilshere is on course for a bumper new contract as Arsene Wenger starts preparing the midfielder for the Arsenal captaincy.

Sportsmail understands preliminary discussions regarding a deal extension, which will see the 20-year-old net a significant increase on his £50,000-a-week deal, have taken place.

The England star still has two-and-a-half years left to run on that contract but the Arsenal hierarchy are understandably eager to extend it. They do not want any uncertainty over Wilshere’s future.

Having seen their prized young talent make a successful comeback from long term injury Arsenal are clearly keen to tie Jack Wilshere down to a new long term deal. This is perhaps all the more of a necessity given the plethora of top talents who have left the North London club in recent seasons but is also a way of rewarding the continued development of a homegrown talent.

Thomas Vermaelen has spoken of the downside to being the club’s captain, the added pressure the armband brings, and in many ways Wilshere is the logical replacement for the Belgian international though one would imagine such a switch would occur in the summer as opposed to in the middle of the current campaign.

This source speaks of Wilshere moving nearer to the club’s top earner, thought to be Lukas Podolski’s £90k a week deal, and the 20 year old certainly deserves such a deal as he is very much the future of the club.

Though he has spent the best part of 14 months out injured Wilshere has still amassed 69 club appearances and half a dozen national team caps.
