Man United Line Up £12m January Move for Premier League ‘Maverick’

Manchester United poised to tempt Queens Park Rangers with £12m offer for midfielder Adel Taarabt

Manchester United are considering a shock £12 million bid for Queens Park Rangers midfielder Adel Taarabt in the January transfer window.

Any offer could tempt new QPR manager Harry Redknapp into a sale as it would raise the crucial funds he requires to bolster his squad when the window reopens.

At present there is only a relatively small amount of money available to Redknapp, who could also rely heavily on the loan market as he targets a striker and a central defender, in particular, in his attempt to haul QPR off the bottom of the Premier League.

The Sun reports on the same story and dubs the QPR man a ‘Maverick’, which seems a fair assessment of a player with obvious talent who doesn’t have the consistent ability to harness that quality in an effective manner.

Described by Harry Redknapp in the past as a ‘Fruitcake’ it seems likely that if QPR were offered £12m for the Moroccan they wouldn’t think twice and would accept the money gratefully. This source goes on to state that such funds could be used to land long term target Michael Dawson, who is even more likely to complete a long awaited move to Loftus Road now that his former White Hart Lane boss is in charge of the West London side.

There is no denying the raw talent Moroccan international Taarabt possesses but as was all to evident on the weekend the 23 year old is in many ways a luxury player who so rarely delivers. The former Tottenham man is very much an example of style over substance.

For all the tricks and turns there is very little end product and as evidenced in QPR’s trip to Old Trafford on Saturday, the QPR man gives the ball away far too frequently and is repeatedly guilty of over-egging the pudding with one to many twist or turn.

It would be something of a surprise that Ferguson would make such an offer for a player who has consistently failed to deliver in the English top tier.
