Five players who could help put a stop to the Old Trafford defensive leak.
Having conceded three goals against lowly Reading, and three horrific ones defensively speaking, Sir Alex Ferguson is surely likely to look to improve a defence that has been leaking goals like a sieve all season.
Though Man United top the table they have shipped in 21 goals in 15 Premier League matches, only one side in the top half of the table has been as ineffective at the back and but for the goal-scoring exploits of Robin Van Persie, Wayne Rooney, Javier Hernandez and co. the Old Trafford side would be far lower down the table.
With that in mind here are five solid defenders who could be very useful additions in the January transfer window.
Mats Hummels (Borussia Dortmund)
The 23 year old has been strongly linked with a possible Old Trafford switch and this source believes that the defender is ready for force the situation by pushing for a deal to be struck.
Man United have been very weak defensively this term, suffering with a surfeit of injury concerns that have seen the likes of Phil Jones, Nemanja Vidic and Chris Smalling all spend time out on the sidelines. Inconsistent displays from Rio Ferdinand and Jonny Evans have further exacerbated the issue and a move to bring in a solid defender in January may well be on the cards for Sir Alex Ferguson.
Hummels has been the mainstay of Jurgen Klopp’s back-line for the past three seasons and the former Bayern Munich man has helped the Westfalenstadion side to back to back Bundesliga titles. However this term he has seen his former employers open up a massive lead at the top of the table which could well lead to the German international considering his options.
