Emirates Stadium and Anfield sides keen on Eredivisie striker who wants move away from Heracles.
Arsenal and Liverpool fight to sign Eredivisie goal machine
Versatile forward attracting interest from both Anfield and Emirates Stadium.
Both Arsenal and Liverpool are believed to be tracking Heracles forward Samuel Armenteros, who has been in great form this season in front of goal.
The versatile attacker has scored eight goals in 14 Eredivisie appearances for his club – including five in his last four matches – but that is far from the only string to his bow.
He has also supplied four assists for his team-mates, making him one of the more creative players in the league, and has been one of the revelations of the season so far.
Armenteros is already hoping to leave Heracles, and that with his contract up in the summer he is likely to be either available on the cheap in January or for free in June.
“I have had three wonderful years and have to thank Heracles for everything,” said Armenteros.
“I am now 22-years-old and have two full seasons as a player. I would like to develop further.
“We are all born as humans and just like everyone else I want to reach the top.
“Heracles probably know what they can ask for me. Next season I walk out the door for free.”
As signings go this one fits the bill for both Arsene Wenger and Brendan Rodgers.
For Wenger it would be a return to his tried and tested formula of picking up relative nobodies and making them into household names ‘on the cheap’. For Rodgers it will be a chance to continue Liverpool’s youthful transfer policy whilst also bringing in another adaptable talent to beef up his Anfield squad with the future in mind.
Armenteros is on the fringes of the senior Swedish national team and is one of the top scorers in the Dutch top tier despite playing for a mid-table outfit. The comments the youngster makes are not even subtle and it’s clear the Heracles forward wants to make a move up and if a decent offer is made then it may well be accepted by the Polman Stadion side.
Both Liverpool and Arsenal could do with extra attacking support and in-form Armenteros may be the man to help in that regard.
