Liverpool Prepare £5m Move for Tottenham Defender

Anfield side take an interest in White Hart Lane youngster.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is preparing a January move for England Under-21 left-back Danny Rose, writes the Sunday People.

Rose is on a season-long loan at Sunderland from Tottenham, but the agreement has a mid-season break clause which could see him return to White Hart Lane, or be sold in the New Year window.

Kop chief Rodgers is desperate to sign a left-back as he is not a fan of Spanish star Jose Enrique, who has been operating in left midfield and would be sold if Liverpool could find a buyer.

And Rose, who was at the centre of the England U21 race storm in Serbia in October, has impressed the Anfield chief with a succession of fine displays for Sunderland this season.

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy will demand a premium fee for the 22-year-old, believed to be around £5million.

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers may well have a number of areas in his Anfield squad he wishes to address in the January transfer window but one would imagine the left-back role is fairly low down on his list of priorities.

Whilst it’s true that Jose Enrique has not excelled in his usual role this term he has impressed further up on the left flank. Stewart Downing is clearly not all that comfortable in a makeshift role either, however Rodgers can, and has, called upon Glen Johnson to fill the role as and when needed.

This solution may become all the more relevant when Martin Kelly returns from injury and given that youngster Andre Wisdom also offers a right-back option. Therefore a move for a new full-back is perhaps not all that urgent an issue, not as urgent as fixing the problem of a complete lack of effective alternatives to Luis Suarez up front, or even a simple strike partner for the Uruguayan.

That said, Danny Rose is a decent young player who could well mature into a very able performer. If Liverpool could bring in the England Under 21 international for just £5m then perhaps such a deal would be worth considering.
