Speculation rife that Roma man is on his way to the Etihad Stadium.
Roma star on the verge of agreeing Man City deal
Daniele De Rossi has met with Manchester City officials to discuss a possible move away from Roma, according to sources in Italy.
De Rossi, 29, has spent his entire senior career at Roma but is believed to be growing disillusioned with life at the club.
The capital side are currently in sixth place, nine points behind leaders Juventus, and the midfielder has not enjoyed the best relationship with Roma boss Zdenek Zeman.
And it is reported that he recently flew to London to meet representatives from City, who have held a long-standing interest in the Italy international.
This is not the first time that Man City have been ‘on the verge’ of completing a deal to sign Roma midfielder Daniele De Rossi but there may perhaps be a growing possibility that such a move could take place in January.
Roberto Mancini is not happy with aspects of his Etihad Stadium side, who are still unbeaten in Premier League action, and the Italian has long been an admirer of the 29 year old Italian international. There is perhaps an added need to secure such a deal in January and that may be down to the fact that Yaya Toure will be a key absentee for the best part of six weeks due to his taking part in the African Nations Cup Finals.
De Rossi has spent his entire career at the Stadio Olimpico and having collected five Serie A runner-up medals one could imagine that the tigerish midfielder would be interested in a new challenge, especially one that would be financially lucrative for the Rome born battler.
Daniele De Rossi has amassed almost 400 appearances for the Giallorossi and has 82 national team caps to his name.
Mancini’s interest continues despite the fact the Man City boss brought in two strong central midfielders to the club in the summer in the form of Javi Garcia and Jack Rodwell.
