Arsene Wenger: Theo Walcott Has to Make Up His Mind About Arsenal Future

Emirates Stadium contract rebel told to make a decision sooner rather than later.

Arsene Wenger has hit out at contract rebel Theo Walcott over the forward’s failure to agree terms with the club.

The England international is in the final six months of current deal at Emirates Stadium, and will be able to speak with potential new suitors from January.

Arsenal believe they have offered Walcott – who is refusing to sign a new five-year deal worth £75,000-per-week as he looks for a salary closer to £100,000 – an enticing package to keep him in north London, but the 23-year-old continues to stand firm over his demands.

The manager has remained steadfast in his belief the player he signed as a 16-year-old will stay, but his mask slipped at Friday’s press conference when he admitted his frustrations at the on-going wrangle.

The Frenchman said: ‘I have no news. I am frustrated. He knows what I want and he has to make up his mind.’

Clearly Arsene Wenger is losing patience with Theo Walcott and after months of wrangling has very much put the ball back in the England international’s court. He has essentially been told to either accept the agreement on the table or make it very clear that he has no intention to do so.

That way the North London club can then look to sell the 23 year old in January to avoid losing the former Southampton man on a free transfer next summer, something the financially prudent club will simply not allow to happen.

Walcott was frozen out of first team activity for some months but a good run of form coming from the bench and in cup competitions led to a thawing in the relationship between the player and his boss but now Wenger is keen to have the issue resolved once and for all.

Theo Walcott is the club’s top scorer with ten goals in all competitions, however Arsene Wenger is seemingly not willing to offer the attacker an orthodox striking role, something the youngster is apparently keen on securing before he agrees to any compromise over salary demands.
