Wenger wants Swiss star at Emirates Stadium.
Arsenal are interested in a surprise January deal for former West Ham midfielder Valrom Behrami, fanatix has learnt.
The Swiss star is currently enjoying a fine season for Serie A outfit Napoli and it is understood that scouts from the North London club have watched Behrami twice in past month.
Boss Arsene Wenger looks certain to add to his squad in January, with Arsenal currently well off the pace in the Premier League title race and trailing neighbours Tottenham by two points in the chase for the all-important fourth Champions League spot.
Arsenal fans could be forgiven for not getting too excited about the prospect of signing West Ham reject Valrom Behrami but the Swiss international has reinvented himself as a player since leaving West Ham.
At Upton Park, the 27-year-old was most frequently used on the right wing but for Napoli, Behrami is a tough-tackling midfielder who has been on important part of Napoli’s strong start to the season.
The bleached-blond star usually breaks up the play for the Italian giants and allows the more creative Marek Hamsik to roam forward, so Behrami could be a good foil the talented triumvirate of the Santi Cazorla, Jack Wilshere and Mikel Arteta.
Arsenal need investment in January but the only guaranteed addition so far is an unknown Zambian defender, so Wenger will have to be busy in the coming weeks to secure his top targets, which include Klass-Jan Huntelaar and Mohamed Diame.
