EXCLUSIVE: Huntelaar wants £100,000-a-week to seal switch to Arsenal in January

Klaas-Jan Huntelaar will demand to become Arsenal’s best-paid player if he is to join the Gunners next month.

The north London club have opened talks with Schalke over a proposed £6million January swoop for the Holland international.
Huntelaar’s advisers are also fully aware of Arsene Wenger’s intention to sign the 29-year-old striker when the transfer window reopens.

So whilst Arsenal would save a fair bit on the signing of Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, his value being compromised by the fact that he will be out of contract in a little over six months, the North London club must offer the 29 year old a pay deal that would automatically make the Dutchman one of the club’s biggest earners, a move that could well upset others in the Gunners squad.

Huntelaar scored 48 goals in 48 matches in all competitions last term after resurrecting his career in Germany after unsuccessful spells in Spain and Italy with Real Madrid and AC Milan respectively.

Arsenal have been strongly linked with interest in the former Ajax man for some months and with talks apparently already under way it’s clear that Arsene Wenger feels that he needs to beef up an attack that currently relies a great deal on Olivier Giroud, who has managed just four Premier League goals in 16 matches.

Huntelaar may well be all the more likely to leave Schalke after the Bundesliga side sacked boss Huub Stevens despite the Gelsenkirchen side booking a spot in the last 16 of the Champions League without losing a single game.
