Swansea City sensation Michu has been rewarded for his remarkable Premier League form with a promise of a Spain cap in February.

Vicente del Bosque, the manager of the European and world champions, has confirmed that the 26-year-old will make his debut for Spain in their February 6 friendly against Uruguay in Doha.

The forward will be joined in the Spain squad by Celta Vigo striker Iago Aspas, who is understood to be on Swansea manager Michael Laudrup’s January wishlist.

‘Iago Aspas and Michu will appear (against Uruguay),’ Del Bosque told Spanish television.

Michu’s form over the past 18 months certainly warrants international recognition and if the 26 year old does indeed get a maiden Spanish national team call-up then that may well help Michael Laudrup in his fight to fend of prospective suitors interested in the Swansea City attacker.

A national team cap could prove to the former Rayo Vallecano man that remaining at the Liberty Stadium need not harm his career progression and will prove that his ambitions can be met at the South Wales club.

Michu netted 16 goals in La Liga last term, goals which kept his side clear of the drop and earned him a move to the Premier League.

Since his £1.6m move to the English top tier Michu has netted a hugely impressive 13 goals in 18 Premier League appearances to lead the scoring charts.
