Though clearly David Villa doesn’t fit Arsenal’s youthful approach the 31 year old is clearly a player that Arsene Wenger would be willing to make an exception for.
Despite being something of a bit part player at Barcelona he is still one of the most consistent strikers in Europe. The former Valencia man has not hit the heights he would have liked to since his £33m move to the Nou Camp but has still racked up 40 goals in 91 appearances for the Catalan club, and a great many of those were coming from the bench.
Arsenal have been reliant on goal-scoring support from the midfield and wide attacking areas, with Theo Walcott, Lukas Podolski and Santi Cazorla helping weigh in with more than their fair share of goals.
Olivier Giroud has struggled for long periods of the current campaign, registering just four Premier League goals in 17 appearances, hence the need for Wenger to reinforce that area of his Gunners squad.
David Villa is a hugely experienced forward who may well be keen on a new challenge and still has a few seasons in the tank.
