Emirates Stadium side ready to make move for Atletico Madrid striker.
Arsenal have tabled a bid for Atletico Madrid striker Adrian Lopez, Goal.com can reveal.
The Londoners have submitted a formal offer of around £10 million, which is lower than the £14.7m release clause in the forward’s contract.
Goal.com understands that Arsenal opened talks with Atletico to sign the 24-year-old Spain international before Christmas and have now made their move in an attempt to capture the player in the January window.
Atletico Madrid striker Adrian Lopez has been on the Gunners radar for a number of months and as we move towards January it seems that Arsenal are ready to make an opening offer for the 24 year old and given that the Vicente Calderon side are managing just fine without the former Deportivo La Coruna making too much of an impression this season, Diego Simeone’s side sitting in second spot in La Liga this term.
With Radamel Falcao scoring regularly there is perhaps scope for a move to Arsenal as Atletico Madrid have been stuck in contract talks with Lopez, without success, for some months now.
Though Theo Walcott has proven himself as a striking option the 23 year old is still yet to put pen to paper on a new deal and with Olivier Giroud the only other player commonly used up front there is certainly room for an attacking addition such as Adrian in the January transfer window.
Lopez netted 19 goals last term in all competitions, helping Atletico to the Europa League title in his first season at the club. Due to a limited involvement in the first team the Spanish international has scored just one La Liga goal in the current campaign.
Adrian Lopez has collected two international caps, scoring once.
